As snow continues to fall on Saturday morning, the Darien Police Department is asking for the cooperation of motorists while clean-up efforts continue.

“The conditions of the roads are slowly starting to improve due to the efforts of Darien’s Department of Public Works, but we are asking for the cooperation of the public to stay off the roads while public works and the state Department of Transportation continue their road clearing efforts,” said Sgt. Jeremiah Marron of the Darien Police Department.

First Selectman Jayme Stevenson said Darien’s Department of Public Works has been the roads since 3:30 a.m. salting and prepping for snow. She advised those in downtown Darien have patience as cars were out on the road Saturday morning before plows could go through, making it harder to get through that area.

The National Weather Service is predicting rain, snow, freezing rain and sleet before 1 p.m., then likely turning to rain between and 1 and 3 p.m.

The total daytime accumulation of snow is between 1 and 3 inches. Light rain is predicted to continue until tonight.

Darien’s Wreaths Across America ceremony is still on at noon at Spring Grove Cemetery.
