On Saturday, teams of Darien first responders, including the men of the Darien Police Department, Darien Fire House, Noroton Fire House, Noroton Heights Fire House, Post 53, and other community members walked a mile in red high heels to show support and raise money for victims of domestic abuse.

The walk was hosted by the Darien Domestic Abuse Council.

The Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event took place on Sept. 30, the first Saturday preceeding Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The event kicked off at the field adjacent to Hindley School with an opening ceremony. First responders and community members donned their red high heels and Walked a Mile in Her Shoes, ending back at the field for breakfast.

The Darien Domestic Abuse Council is an incorporated 501(c)3 charity comprised of concerned citizens and representatives from town agencies and community groups.  It was formed through the efforts of the Domestic Violence Crisis Center to expand grassroots awareness in the seven Fairfield county towns that it serves (Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Weston, Westport and Wilton).
